Heartland Alliance’s Global Initiative for Sexuality and Human Rights (GISHR) works with LGBT activists and organizations to promote and protect the rights of LGBT persons worldwide.
Heartland Alliance’s Global Initiative for Sexuality and Human Rights (GISHR) stands behind activists who are improving the lives of LGBT persons — promoting their rights and protecting them from abuse — in some of the world’s most hostile environments. GISHR supports the initiatives of local activists to do this in a number of ways, from assisting LGBT persons facing hate crimes, to breaking down deep-seated societal prejudices and garnering key allies for LGBT equality.
GISHR funds and partners with local LGBT organizations to promote LGBT rights in their home countries within Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
