Hundreds of people belonging to the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) community carried out a pride march on Sunday as they cheered and greeted people across the streets of Chennai to mark 10 years of the pride parade. Participants were seen marching in a jovial mood as they raised slogans, held placards and waved rainbow flags to celebrate their identity and individuality. Similar scenes took places all around the world to beat stigmas of personal feelings, guilt and shame. Every year in the month of June, the LGBT community carries out eye-catching gatherings to celebrate the influence of the party on their surroundings. The month ‘June’ was specifically chosen to the mark the anniversary of Stonewalls Riot. Also, called Stonewall Rebellion was a series of violent demonstrations carried out by the LGBTQ community in 1969 in Manhattan, New York.
